Meet the FESD Team: Our Custodial Staff!

We are kicking off our new “Meet the FESD Team” series by recognizing the custodial staff who work behind the scenes every day to keep our schools clean, safe, and welcoming. This summer, while students were away, our custodial team was busy preparing each campus for the new school year. 🏫

Their summer work included mowing and weed whacking, pulling weeds, trimming bushes, planting trees 🌳 and flowers 🌸, spreading new bark under playground structures, power washing campuses, painting offices, classrooms, and doors, shampooing carpets, waxing floors🧹, dusting, dewebbing, cleaning and updating bathrooms, reorganizing the library, and moving furniture. They also helped teachers who were changing classrooms or offices, received and distributed school-supply shipments, and maintained regular cleaning throughout Camp Discover Summer School, our summer Extended Learning Opportunity Program.☀️

By the time students returned, classrooms were ready, campuses were looking fresh, and our schools were prepared for another year of learning. So much of this work happens quietly in the background, but it makes a huge difference every day.

Get to know our custodial team: Together, they have given 96 years of service to FESD. When asked about their favorite part of the job, nearly everyone said the same thing: the students and staff. They enjoy building relationships and taking pride in keeping our schools clean and inviting for students, employees, families, and the community.
And because no job is perfect, one custodian shared his least favorite part of the job in just one word: “glitter!” ✨😄 

We are so thankful for the pride, effort, and care our custodial staff put into our schools all year long. They truly are the glue that helps hold our campuses together. 👏🏼
